Motion detectors can be used indoors or outdoors to signal movement by activating an alarm, siren or light, etc. Motion detectors are most commonly used as a cost effective measure to enhance perimeter security by detecting movement from unauthorized person(s) in a building or home. Usually placed in common "high traffic" areas, motion detectors can also be placed to narrowly target only specific points of interest.
Different technologies involved:
- PIR - Passive Infrared (Most commonly used)
- Microwave (More common in extreme temperature environments or outdoors)
- Dual Detector Technology (A Dual Detector requires an activation of each individual technology (PIR and Microwave) simultaneously to activate a system alarm to reduce chances of false alarms)
- Dual Element - Two separate PIR elements to assist in false alarm reduction particularly from animals)
Common placements:
Misc Info:
- Can be hardwired or wireless
- Can be combined with Glass-breakage Sensors (Glass Break Detectors)
- Most detector range extends to 30 feet. Long range detectors can reach beyond 200 feet.
- Can be integrated with cameras (motion or still)
